INDICATIONS OF FLUCON:

Flucon capsules are indicated for the treatment of the following condition:

IÜ Mucosal Candidiasis: 

These include oropharyngeal, esophgeal, non-invasive , bronchopulmonary infection, candiduria, mucocutaneous & chronic oral atrophic candidiasis (denture sore mouth).

Normal hosts & patients with.compromised immune function may be treated.

2.     Systemic Candidiasis: 

Including candidemia, disseminated candidiasis & other forms of invasive candidal infections.

3.     Vaginal Candidiasis:  Acute or recurrent. 

4.     Prevention offungal infections:

In patients with malignancy UN agency area unit susceptible to such infections as a results of cytotoxic therapy or irradiation.

5.     Cryptococcosis:

Including cryptococcalneningitis & infections of other sites (e.g. pulmonary, cutaneous). Normal hosts & patientswith AIDS, organ transplants or other causes of Immunosupression  may be treated. Flucon can be used as maintenance therapy to prevent relapse of cryptococcal disease in patients with AIDS.

DOSAGE OF FLUCON:

IN ADULTS:

1.     Oropharyngeal Candidiasis:    50mg daily for 7-14 days. 

2.     Oesophageal Candidiasis:        50mg daily for 14-30 days.

3.     Vaginal Candidiasis: 150mg by mouth asasingledose.

4.     Systemic Candidiasis: 400 mg as initial dose followed by 200mg daily for 28 days or longer based on clinical response.

5.     Acute cryptococcal meningitis & other cryptococcal infections: 400mgüs intial dose followed by 200 to 400mg daily, duration• of treatment depending on clinical  mycological response.

6.     Flucon may also be used in daily doses of 100-200mg to prevent relapse following a

DOSE OF FLUCON IN CHILDREN: 

Based on the prolonged half-life seen in premature Newborn (gestational aged 26 to 29 weeks), these children in the first two weeks of life, should receive the same dose as in older children, but administered every 72 hours. After the primary period, these youngsters ought to be treated once daily. However, when the treating physician considers Flucon therapy imperative, the following daily doses for children aged 1 year & older with normal renal function are recommended. 

1. candidal infection: 1-2mg/kg.

2.Systemic candidal/ cryptococcal infections: 3-6mg/kg 

 For children with impaired renal function the daily dose should be Feduced in accordance  with the guidelines given for adults dependent on the degree of renal impairment.

SIDE EFFECTS OF FLUCON:

Flucon is generally well tolerated. The commonest side effects associated with Flucon are naysea, headache, skin rash, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, flatulence & elevated liver function values.

DIRECTION FOR PREPARATION (ORAL SUSPENSION):

 

To prepare 35ml suspension add 25ml of previously boiled and cooled water into the bottle with the help of measuring cup and shake vigorously to dissolve the powder.

Prepared suspension is usable for 14 days. Shake well before eachuse.
